Hello, my name is April and I am a 31-year-old mother and virtual assistant who loves nature, abstract art, and blogging. About a year ago, I suddenly developed stiffness in my hands, which I thought was caused by carpal tunnel syndrome. Then I started to develop pain in my shoulders and stiffness in other parts of my body like my knees, toes, and wrists. Bending my wrists became impossible and everyday tasks like opening doors, doing my hair, and standing up became very difficult. My feet and ankles also become very swollen and walking felt painful with each step. I was also exhausted, felt nauseous at random times, and lost my appetite!

Six month before I started developing arthritis symptoms

 

I decided to seek out the help of a local chiropractor, who specialized in functional medicine. However, being self-employed, I had no insurance at that time and decided no to pursue the treatment. Plus, I believe I could somehow heal myself.. but I wasn’t sure how. And seeing a traditional doctor was not an option as I knew that prescription meds with terrible side effects were the only solution they would provide. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands to practice self-healing techniques. The journey would not prove to be as easy as I thought.

I started doing online research and discovered that my symptoms pointed to Rheumatoid Arthritis or some similar inflammatory condition. So, I further researched natural healing techniques and started experimenting with different healing techniques, starting with changing my diet. The problem was I wasn’t sure what I should eat or which diet to follow. I noticed a few consistent things were to eliminate sugar, processed foods, dairy, and gluten. But I struggled with whether I should go vegan, no-grain, or no starch altogether. I began taking several superfoods and supplements, as well, but the healing progress seemed to be very slow. In some cases, I went months without feeling any different.

When doing online research, I came across an ebook called The Arthritis Step-By-Step Strategy. I finally decided to purchase it and I studied every word and started implementing the advice in the book. Some of it I already knew, but other parts confirmed what I had been doing wrong, so I knew what I needed to change. The first thing was my diet. I decided to cut ALL grain products (even rice and pseudo grains) out of my diet. I started a whole foods diet following the Whole 30 diet. Within 30 days, I started to notice a reduction of stiffness in my knees and I could stand up easier.

I also decided to incorporate more Omega 3s, such as from flaxseed and wild Salmon oil) into my supplementation, along with Vitamin D and other supplements. In this blog, you will learn all about my journey and what I’m doing to restore my health. I also use mental techniques, spirituality, and lifestyle changes. It feels so good knowing that I am finally making progress after over a year of frustration, confusion, and desperation (and sometimes depression). At times, I lost faith in myself and my ability to self-heal. Some days I felt like I should give up and accept this condition.

Although I am still in the process of healing and recovering (see my bent fingers below), I am feeling so much more encouraged, empowered, and like I actually have a future. I’m also seeing the positive aspects of this condition, which is reflecting on how I neglected myself and did not have balance in my life. I now have HOPE that I can have my life back, with greater appreciation for my life. I hope that my blog will provide hope and empowerment to others who are also suffering from similar symptoms.
